Image sizes are crucial for optimizing a website, influenced by two factors: the number of pixels and the file size in megabytes (MBs).
Pixels determine the visual quality of an image. The more pixels, the larger the image can be displayed, but also the larger the file size in megabytes (MB's).
Ideally, images should not be saved larger than 1MB. The use of modern file formats like WebP makes it easier to stay under the 1MB limit.
By using the right resolution, the file size can be further optimized. An image that is displayed smaller on the website, like in a 4 column block, doesn't need to be saved with a resolution of 1920x1280px.
However, you don't want an image to appear poorly either. For an image spanning the entire width of the website, save it with a width of at least 1920px. The height depends on how tall the image will be on the website.
Is the image about half the height of your screen? Then you can save it with a height of 780px.
A proper balance between pixels and MB's ensures an optimized website.
